Meet Our Board:
Justin Minnes: An Ottawa native with a history of community involvement, including volunteer support with the Ottawa MS Society, the Ottawa Network For Education, and a variety of local events, Justin has always believed in giving back when and where he can. Having owned a successful Ottawa small business, he understands the challenge entrepreneurs face in this city when it comes to growing their customer base and becoming a success. Through his client focused approach, he has come to realize that people have a depth and breadth of character that cannot be captured in anything as simple or prosaic as a label. The decision to help bring back the (formerly known as) LGX tradeshow for the benefit of the LGBTQ community is based on the principles of community, identity, and acceptance; Justin is grateful for all of the support, camaraderie, and hard work of the LGBTX team, without whom this event wouldn’t be possible. Collectively, we look forward to growing the show back to and beyond its former levels - see you all May 14th, 2016!
Donald Walker: Donald has been active in the Ottawa community since the year 2000, and spends his time being involved with local LGBT Softball leagues, Running clubs, and Curling clubs. He is the main proponent behind the re-launch of LGBTX starting in 2014, where he brings his desire to see both LGBT acceptance and small businesses grow and prosper in the Capital region. Having been in the insurance industry for 25 years, Donald focuses on providing excellent value and service to all of his clients by making sure they are well protected from accident or loss while being approachable and understanding.
Lorilynn Barker: Lorilynn has been involved with a variety of charities and community groups in Ottawa and Toronto since 2001. She has worked on fundraising for Cancer Research, Bullying Canada and for a variety of LGBT organizations. As an Account Manager for Daily Xtra, she is committed to the fight for gender equality and acceptance and believe the rights of all people should be respected equally, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Lorilynn was asked to join the board in reviving LGX, now LGBT Xpo, in 2013 for it's official relaunch and has been a board member since. She is eager to continue to build LGBT Xpo to beyond its former LGX level.
Naila Parsons: Naila Parsons has been a proud supporter of the LGBTQ community her entire life and is pleased to be a founding member of the new LGBTX. She recently made a shift from private practice in Wills & Estates and Real Estate Law to her current position as an underwriter with Stewart Title, allowing her to the flexibility to both raise a family and further her career. Naila not only handles the billing and logistics for LGBTX, but is a crucial member of the team that adds motivation, accountability, and dedication. She is grateful for the opportunity to connect with the community and provide meaningful support when and where she can.
